A visit to painter Tomm El-Saieh's artist studio.
The large-format, abstract paintings of Tomm El-Saieh teem with obsessive markings – notations, shapes, scratches, and erasures –that create fields of bursting, complex color. Born in Haiti, raised in Miami, and touting Haitian, Palestinian, and Israeli heritage— El-Saieh draws inspiration from American and international abstraction and Haitian Voodoo traditions, like trance-induction and percussive music. He leads us on a tour of his studio and explains his process and practice.
